We use the term ‘client’ because we believe it better identifies individuals, who do have the agency in determining their mental and physical health.
My method is personalized, collaborative, and comprehensive.
We, the client and I as a team, will develop a strategy to implement habits that use the mind and body to improve the client’s functionality, overall well-being, and performance. Through skill acquisition, integration, and maintenance, clients can improve their quality of life and reach their goals. These goals are achieved over time, with periods of progress and regression. I encourage clients to recognize and appreciate the milestones in their journey, as this will enhance their happiness, sense of progress, and agency.
My job is to help clients discover undercurrents negatively impacting their lives and identify the practical, effective, sustainable routines that help them be more functional, less anxious, and high performing.
I’ve worked with many clients that had been left frustrated and “stuck” in their progress, due to a lack of direct pushback or confrontation. Because of this, some may find me more directive than other psychologists. I do not want you to waste your money and time and I want you to improve.
I’d like to make this a short-term treatment process and have you reach your goals in a timely manner. Ideally, you acquire skills, integrate them to multiple facets of your life, and then move to a maintenance phase that does not require frequent or intensive therapy.
I will provide transparent feedback to you and challenge you to push yourself when I think it is necessary, helpful, and constructive.
In order to create a treatment program that is best suited to your needs, my first step is always to understand a client’s goals and current challenges. Sometimes clients have a performance goal and they know the steps it takes to prepare, train, and maintain. They arrive seeking easily defined assistance. Sometimes clients come because they are in crisis and need immediate intervention to relieve distressing and unwanted symptoms.
Often, the incident that inspires people to come to therapy is just the initial ripple that has appeared at the surface of their lives. We will go below the surface to identify the currents that run deeper, that impact all aspects of life, and then devise an individualized plan to navigate them.
My approach to all clients is going to be holistic: discover, practice, achieve. While clients at both ends of the spectrum are anxious to address the concerns of the moment, success will be short-lived if we do not address the underlying issues that precipitated crisis, exacerbated pain, or stifled performance.
The goal at Correnti Psychology is short-term positive change, sustainable beneficial progress, and long-term success.
Where Does “Correnti” Come From?
Correnti Means Currents in Italian
We all either need to go with flow more or find alternate ways to get out of our current course and get into the flow of the direction we desire.
Currents truly are an excellent metaphor for life. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all riding currents created by our thoughts, feelings, emotions, relationships, habits, routines, and actions.
Currents, even ones influenced by our own actions, are tricky. Sometimes, the best solution is to find a way out of a current, because the current is sweeping you out to sea or, heading us straight for an unforeseen waterfall! Other times, the solution is to work with it and trust the flow to carry you to where you want go.
Furthermore, just as currents can be visible or invisible, we may or may not be aware of the factors promoting and maintaining our own distress, functional limitations, and/or performance issues. Sometimes, the key is simply to become aware of the current and where it is taking you, so that you can plan accordingly.
